Chipotle

Chipotle was founded on July 13, 1993, by Steve Ells, an American businessman. Steve Ells went to a culinary school in America and then became a cook at Stars in San Francisco. He was able to observe a popular dish Taquerias and Burritos in San Francisco. He used all of his experience to build and open his first Chipotle Restaurant near a University in Denver, Colorado. Chipotle became a hit and was selling more than 1,000 burritos per day.

In 1998, when Chipotle only had 16 locations in Colorado, McDonald’s made a major investment with Chipotle. In 2006, the McDonald’s corporation fully divested itself from the Chipotle restaurant chain. This was done to focus on their own core business while also having the freedom to explore new opportunities. Chipotle had grown to over 2,000 locations, and 45,000 employees and had a net income of 475.6 million dollars in 2015.

Chipotle has been able to build a successful brand around its food and the experience they provide to customers. Their strategy of emphasizing the quality of their ingredients, sourcing them responsibly, and serving them in a way that is mindful of the environment has paid off. They had a few PR disasters in recent years, which led to a decrease in sales and profits. However, it didn’t stop them from working hard and being the best fast food out there.
